Canva stopped renting other labs' image models and trained its own, on posters and menus instead of photographs, which Canva says is why its text comes out legible. Apple put touch on the Mac, so every hover state you ever designed is a question again. Anthropic filed to go public and, in the same document, said Claude now writes over 90% of what goes into its codebase. Elsewhere a law firm discovered a blue that is not navy, a rebrand began with a seance, and a Newcastle fan mourned a badge that used to be hard to draw. The Falcons tried the striped bird again. It went the same way.
Canva released Craft, its first in-house image model, to all users, TechCrunch reported. It plans spatial layout, scale, hierarchy and text first, then renders up to 2K in 30 aspect ratios. It was trained on human-made Canva templates rather than photos, and will be offered through Canva's API and MCP.

OpenAI said GPT-6.1 Terra matches GPT-6 Astra on Agents' Last Exam, a test of how well agents use software at work, at one tenth of the price per token, and finishes tasks over three times faster on average than both Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol.

Linear co-founder Karri Saarinen said issues created in Linear by people and through MCP are up 400% this year. He said more customers are building their own internal agents and using Linear as the shared layer for work and context between people and agents.

Karri Saarinen said that when he designed Linear's priority icons he disliked Jira's coloured chevrons, which looked like military ranks. After trying abstract and literal ideas, he settled on signals. He told the story after the startup Entire shipped similar icons.

Mother Design rebranded Purple Garden, a psychic services app, after its team held a seance, a chakra reading and an automatic drawing workshop, Creative Boom reported. Marks made in charcoal while trying to bypass conscious thought became the base of the identity.

Uncommon Creative Studio rebranded White & Case, the firm's first major rebrand in 13 years, Creative Boom reported. Navy is replaced by an electric Catalyst Blue, the logo draws on the lettering of Trajan's Column, and a proprietary tool turns photographs into streams of data.

Art director and Newcastle fan Will Knight argued in It's Nice That that football rebrands keep smoothing away the quirks fans love. He pointed to Newcastle United's new crest and its castle stamp replacing the magpie, which fans nicknamed TemuCastle.

Nielsen Norman Group surveyed 521 UX practitioners: 99% had AI at work and it saved time on nearly every task, but sentiment averaged 3.57 out of 5. Output quality (54%) and privacy (50%) were the top barriers, and designers and researchers felt less job-secure than PMs.

Qt Group announced Clate, a no-code, AI-native tool for designing embedded interfaces that outputs production-ready QML, SD Times reported. It shows frame rate and memory use as you design, and connects to other tools over MCP. It is in beta, with a full release early next year.

Lukas Oppermann shared Hardik Pandya's method for making design systems readable to language models: spec files, a closed token layer, CI audits and drift detection. In an Atlassian trial it produced 64 specs, zero hardcoded values and consistent AI output, he said.

HumanSignal gave 10 AI models the same 10 design briefs and collected 4,500 human preference votes. GPT 6 Astra won 64.3% of matchups, ahead of Grok 4.6 and Muse Spark 1.3, with the top three within 4 points. Claude Sonnet 5 placed seventh. Seven models won at least one brief.

The maker of Axolo tested 12 small open models on about 2,500 questions drawn from real design systems, with 271 hard cases settled by a designer. Scripts beat models on token categories, 97% to 92%, but models won on meaning, like default button text, 98% to 11%.
